The History of
Pine Neck in Noyac
Discover The Beginnings Of This Beautiful Neighborhood We Cherish And Aim To Protect For Years To Come.
Taking you all the way back to the 1920's.
The post-Civil War boom in American industry and the rise of a leisure class paved the way for families to flock to the serene bays and beautiful beaches of the East End. Initially, these early visitors arrived by steamboat, but the later extension of the railroad to Sag Harbor brought a surge in the number of tourists. With developers seizing the opportunity, Noyac Bay became home to several delightful summer colonies and even a few charming hotels. One such establishment was the Noyac Cottage Association (now known as Northampton Shores), which was established in 1888, just a stone's throw away from Jessup's Neck. Interestingly, reports suggest that this development boasted a 500-foot dock, serving as a gateway for boat transportation to Sag Harbor and Greenport. To this day, this picturesque shoreline still showcases splendid examples of three-story Victorian summer homes.
Further west, the North Sea Development Corporation capitalized on the landscape, creating lots near Mill Creek in what is now known as the North Hampton Colony. In the 1920s, the Pine Neck Park Development Company took center stage, offering several hundred lots in the charming area of Pine Neck. This was the beginning of the beautiful neighborhood of Pine Neck.
The History of
Yacht Hampton Boating Club & Marina
1950's
This marina was primarily a commercial marina in a residential neighborhood for over 73 years dating back to the Truman administration.
Additionally, pictures from the 1950's below reveal a very tall boat ramp which has the sole purpose to walk aboard a very tall and large yacht. One can deduce, from both the large, elevated dock construction and the arial photo then comparing the pier length and the other large boats in the arial photo, one can conclude that this marina and/or creek housed several boats 40' to 60'. Simply compare the boat length in the arial photo to the boat pier which extends one hundred+ feet out into the water.
Additionally, a signed affidavit from the prior owner in 1069 speaks to the fact that provides boat rentals existed at 51 Pine Neck Ave starting at least in 1948, (just 4 years after DDay) and the basis of the 1969 C of O states two main points:
1. 50 rental boats existed on this site
2. No mention of slips for rent for the residents from 1950-1969, so it appears this marina was a 100% commercial operation offering boats for rent and motors for rent and the sale fo boats.
From 1948-1969 this property was not for local residents to dock their boat, but solely for the purpose of commercial activities, for residents and visitors alike to have access to the waters via rentals, without buying an expensive boat. Generally a good thing then, as it is today. Today Yacht Hampton Boating Club & Marina allows both, slips for local residents to use and enjoy, as well as lending their new and pristine boats for a day to make memorable days on the water accessible to all, not just those willing to spend $150,000 or $1,500,000 on a boat. This should be seen as a good thing, all while providing careers and jobs for 30+ maritime professionals.

2000's
This marina has a pre-existing use and history of boat clubs and boat rentals dating 1948. This ad from 2009 additionally proves that boat rentals ran out of this marina consistently since its inception. Even the name "Hampton Boat Club" from 2009 is eerily similar to our Yacht Hampton Boating Club & Marina, 13 years later.
Also note the Sag Harbor Sailing ad below. It states that you can rent a sailboat for a full or half day in 2009. This marina/boat yard property has operated as a commercial boat rental site for Sag Harbor Sailing for over 23 years, since 2000, offering sailboat rentals, fishing boat rentals and chartered boats with a captain, all uninterrupted under the name Sag Harbor Sailing.
